A high-profile lawsuit over who can participate in college athletics led to an unusual showdown between two of Louisiana’s best-known prosecutors. It also shed light on a fact not often talked about outside of legal circles. Most Louisiana district attorneys practice law on a private basis on top of public jobs holding criminals accountable.

5th Circuit to consider La.’s arguments for banning telehealth abortion

The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will consider Louisiana’s arguments Wednesday for tightening federal policy around a common abortion and miscarriage drug. The primary target of Louisiana v. Food and Drug Administration and similar lawsuits against mifepristone is to end a Biden-era policy allowing abortion pills to be prescribed without an in-person visit with a provider.

SpaceX promises coastal restoration, but scope and spending unclear

SpaceX’s plan to build a $100 billion rocket launch complex on Louisiana’s coast could bring new investment in marsh restoration and shoreline protection, but the extent of that work — and how much the Elon Musk-led company will spend — remains largely undetermined, according to the head of the state’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.

On a rural stretch of land in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, an open meadow filled with bright wildflowers, a memorial grove of trees and a giant boulder marks the spot where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001. Tim Lambert, editor-in-chief with the Pennsylvania Capital-Star of States Newsroom, recently revisited the memorial — where he happened to own a piece of land that was part of more than three dozen acres that made up the crash site.
