A new congressional district map in Louisiana is expected to further tilt its U.S. House delegation toward Republicans in 2027. But the new political landscape has not discouraged some Democrats from qualifying for races on the Nov. 3 ballot in which they will be considered extreme long shots.

Four Republican Louisiana lawmakers who have filed to run for Congress in the November election said they have all been in touch with the White House about obtaining President Donald Trump’s endorsement in their respective races. They believe his backing up for grabs even though Trump gave his nod to state Sen. Blake Miguez, R-New Iberia, in the May 15 party primaries that were called off.

Elvis Brooks thought he had an airtight case when he applied for compensation from the state of Louisiana after he was wrongfully convicted in a fatal bar shooting that kept him in prison for more than four decades. But Attorney General Liz Murrill has vigorously fought Brooks claim, asserting in court filings that he is still guilty and therefore should not receive any money at all.
