Fishermen question LNG industry’s efforts to boost Louisiana fisheries

Two major players in the liquified natural gas industry in Louisiana covered part of the cost of a recent restocking of redfish in coastal waters, but fishermen are skeptical about whether it will be effective. They’re instead calling for more investment in marshland restoration.

Landry’s proposed 90-day pause on diesel exports ruffles industry group

Gov. Jeff Landry’s idea to pause U.S. diesel exports for 90 days to help bring down prices at the pump is a “misguided proposal,” according to a leading Louisiana’s fossil fuel industry group. The governor says Americans are subsidizing the cost of diesel in Europe, where limited a fuel supply and higher costs are connected to “issues in Iran” and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Proposal could boost FEMA’s response to domestic violence after disasters

Bipartisan legislation proposed in Congress would direct the Federal Emergency Management Agency to strengthen safety at evacuation shelters and establish reporting protocols for issues like domestic violence and sexual assault. It would also require training for FEMA personnel in how to identify and support survivors of gender-based violence, as well as changes to how the agency conducts household check-ins after a disaster.
