When thousands of voters cast their ballots next month to decide who will join the Louisiana Supreme Court next, none will be registered Democrats. Louisiana’s new semi-closed primary election system has shut them out of picking the state’s newest justice.

Proposal would punish college students who use deepfakes to harass

There are many services available online that can freely or cheaply take an authentic image of a clothed person and produce a picture or video that appears to show them naked or even engaged in sexual activity.

Environmental groups want to join gov’t lawsuit against Smitty’s Supply

The Louisiana Environmental Action Network and Northshore River Watch have taken steps to join the state and federal government’s legal action against Smitty’s Supply Inc. for the August explosion at its plant in Tangipahoa Parish. By intervening in the case, LEAN and Northshore River Watch would take part in any negotiations between the two sides and could effectively ensure the government doesn’t accept a weak settlement that favors the company with small fines.
