Political donors would have addresses redacted from public reports under bill

The Louisiana Legislature might block the public from seeing the addresses of political donors who give money to election campaigns starting Aug. 1. Sen. Caleb Kleinpeter, R-Port Allen, has sponsored a sprawling bill meant to continue the rewrite of state campaign finance laws that were drastically overhauled last year.

Proposal fizzles to place air monitors at Louisiana industrial facilities

A proposal to require environmental air monitoring systems at high-emission industrial facilities in Louisiana was left in limbo and faces steep odds of moving forward. The air monitors called for in Senate Bill 356, sponsored by Sen. Royce Duplessis, D-New Orleans, would have provided early warning for neighbors to seek safety in the event of a toxic pollution release.
