A brief note on election news to start: The Louisiana Legislature has approved holding the state’s postponed U.S. House elections on Nov. 3, but the races will be decided with an open primary with candidates from all parties being placed on the ballot. Any runoffs needed will take place Dec. 12. The closed U.S. Senate party primaries and other contests are still on for Saturday. Check out our Voter Guide to learn what’s on the state-level ballot.

Efforts to put heavy restrictions on the menhaden fishing industry in Louisiana appear to have failed to advance so far this legislative session. The only ones moving forward have been those with no opposition from commercial fishing interests. We’ll guide you through the various proposals.
