Louisiana has seen a sudden drop in the number of people receiving federal food stamps this year, and while the data doesn’t show precisely what’s driving the dramatic decline, it does indicate what’s not causing it.

Louisiana’s current U.S. House races might appear similar to those underway just three months ago before the May 16 congressional primary was canceled, but they’re not. For example, two Republican state lawmakers were originally opponents in the 5th District race. But with the congressional map reworking that pushed the elections back to November, they are no longer running against each other.
